The City Design Center identified projects through nominations by the
City Design Center team and an advisory committee of national experts,
and through an open call for entries. To be considered for the catalog,
projects were required to:
· Be affordable to people who, because of their
limited income, cannot afford market-rate
housing;
· Provide permanent housing for independent living;
· Be located in the United States;
· Have been completed between 1980 and 2000;
· Illustrate one or more specified design objectives.
Architects, developers, and other affordable housing producers from
across the United States submitted approximately 275 projects in response
to the call. The City Design Center team and the advisory committee reviewed
the project information submitted by the project's developer, architect
and/or other parties involved in its production. Seventy-five projects
were selected from this pool for the catalog.
